Trump, whose country is the world's second biggest producer of greenhouse gases after China, drew widespread criticism when he announced on June 1 that he would quit the climate pact.

Ms Jen Siebel Newsom, a documentary-maker and actress, said on Twitter: "Mr Trump - Women do not want to hear unsolicited remarks on what you think of their bodies".

In the video, US president did not hide his actions, even appearing to take a step back to appraise the French president's 64-year-old wife.

The video was part of a live stream shared by the French presidential Facebook page and has since begun doing the rounds of social media.

At a NATO summit in Belgium in May, the two world leaders met for the first time and engaged in multiple lengthy and awkward handshakes.

President Donald Trump was captured complimenting the French president's wife's appearance Thursday as he toured a famous Paris landmark.

She later paid tribute to the American and French flags by wearing a red, white and blue dress for a dinner with the Macrons at the Eiffel Tower. "Beautiful", Trump told the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron as she stood next to first lady Melania Trump. He then repeated the sentiment to Emmanuel: "She's in such good physical shape".

The pair took in the highlights of the sanctuary with its rector Patrick Chauvet as their guide.

Another added: "When will Donald Trump stop embarrassing the US?"

Trump had alleged that the Paris accord was soft on leading polluters like China and India.

The day also celebrates the Fete de la Federation, which marks the unity of the French people under a common constitution, the first step towards France's modern nation.
